NovaStor's NovaNET 9 Enterprise Backup System Supports High Performance Disk-Based Backup of Oracle Database Servers
SIMI VALLEY, Calif., July 14, 2004 - NovaStor Corporation, a provider of enterprise solutions for small businesses, today announced the release of NovaNET 9 with support for Oracle Database servers. NovaNET 9 supports Oracle 8i and 9i Databases on Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 8. NovaNET 9 provides users of Oracle databases a cost effective, high performance solution for complete 24x7 data protection with both tape and disk-based backup.
According to a recent report entitled by the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), backup and restore performance are the top 2 data protection concerns of IT managers. In this report, customers surveyed by ESG say that over the next 24 months, 59% of these customers will use some form of disk-based backups, 54% say that data will be backed up to disk at some point and up to 24% of data will backed up to disk exclusively. The drivers of this disk based backup trend are increased performance requirements, ease of restore and government regulations.
NovaNET 9 users can leverage the latest in low cost, high performance disk-based backup solutions from leading server and RAID vendors such as DELL, IBM, HP, EMC and NetApp. The combination of NovaNET 9's Oracle Database support and our VirtualTape solution lets small businesses reduce backup time by over 50% and improve restore time by 90% over conventional tape only backup solutions.
"The industry focus on creating cost effective enterprise solutions for small businesses make support of Oracle mandatory for NovaStor," said Shaun Walsh, COO of NovaStor. He continued, "Our customers are increasingly migrating to D2D to improve performance and support regulatory requirements. NovaNET 9's Multi-Stream Architecture is ideal for supporting the need to improved performance."
"What I love about NovaNET 9 is that it can multi-task as many as five servers in the same rack and back up all five at same time in about 20 minutes," said Michael Mooney, regional engineering manager for Data Networks in Hunt Valley, Md. "It performs multiple streams, there's no queue and that's invaluable to me. And I can run Linux, Novell, and Windows at the same time."
NovaNET 9 supports backup for cross-platform environments to meet the demands of users with mixed operating systems, all of which can be centrally managed through its common graphical user interface. It provides end-to-end data protection for the desktop, workgroup or enterprise, whether the user is a small company with a single server or a large company with hundreds of servers. Convenient features for remote administration, distributed backup processing, redundant tape drives, virtual-tape-on-disk and disaster recovery are seamlessly integrated and can be enabled to fit the user's requirements.
Pricing for NovaNET 9 starts at $199 for a peer-to-peer network and $399 for a single server environment ranging upward as server and file protection needs increase. Support for Oracle is available as a separate module.
